"The Road SurfR board is the closest thing to surfing out of the water. There is no friction, no lateral resistance ? it almost floats! I love it."

Layne has dominated that world of female surfing like no other. She has 27 career victories (25 on WCT; 2 on WQS) to date. She was the World Surfing Champion for six consecutive years (1998-2003). Layne has ridden the largest wave ever by a woman ? at 30ft. She continues to compete at the highest level.

Layne has won numerous sporting awards, including ESPN Surfer of the Year (2001), Australian Female Athlete of the Year (2003), USA Surfer Magazine Female Surfer of the Year (2003,4) and the Laureus World Alternative Sportsperson of the Year (2004).

Off the water, Layne is a businessperson and an influential spokesperson for several community and charitable causes, as well as establishing her own "Layne Beachley - Aim for the Stars" Foundation, aimed at encouraging young women in a variety of fields.

Layne is also a Road SurfR board rider and enthusiast!

TOM CURREN : SURFING LEGEND

    TOM CURREN : SURFING LEGEND

"I travel on tour with the Road SurfR board. My boys also have Road SurfR boards and ride all the time. Riding the board builds your surfing skills, but also strengthens your abs and legs ? it's a great workout, especially uphill."

"Once or twice in every generation a surfer comes along with such a natural talent and consummate skill that new performance benchmarks are set for the entire sport. When Tom Curren burst onto the scene in 1980 by winning the Juniors division of the World Amateur Surfing Championships, it was already obvious that he was the one who'd set a new standard for the rest of the decade.

With a smooth and powerful style, and a fresh new approach to the waves that combined big moves with eloquent tube riding, Curren appeared destined to redefine high performance surfing. Plus, Curren had a natural affinity for the ocean that seemed to place him always in the perfect position at exactly the right time. Even in his mid-teens, Tom Curren’s surfing suggested experience that was impossible in one so young.

By the time he won his first professional World Title in 1985, still only 19 years old, Tom Curren entered the record books ? the first ever American to take the world crown since the pro tour began back in 1976. He went on to win two more World Titles, the last in 1990 a nearly miraculous comeback that has him winning the crown as an unseeded competitor.

Today, Tom Curren is back home in Santa Barbara and making another improbable comeback in his late 30s. But for all his illustrious contest appearances ? he has still won more world tour events than any other surfer ? and for all the magazine articles and photos and television interviews, Curren remains an enigma, a mystery man, a soul surfer, incredibly famous, but not at all well known.

It is known however, that Tom Curren, son of respected big wave pioneer Pat Curren, is an amazing surfer, a being born of the sea and its waves, as much of a mystery as the ocean itself ? and a name that will be recorded forever in surfing's rich and colourful history."

    Scott Hulet : www.surfhistory.com

As well pursuing an active music career, Tom continues to surf at the highest level today. In 2005, Tom re-signed with the Rip Curl Team for a further 5 years and continues to surf around the world at the major surfing competitions.

Tom is also a Road SurfR board rider and enthusiast!

HARALD KOHL : INVENTOR

    HARALD KOHL : INVENTOR

"We built a road board for surfers. It is a surfing action, and surfers "get it" very quickly. I also free ride the Road SurfR board at downhill events in the Pyrenees and the Alps - WOW!! - 15-16 minute rides at speeds of up to 80kph - don't try this until you are really ready and properly protected!! The brake makes it possible to maintain control. I hope you like it."

Harald is a mechanical engineer and business manager by training and has surfed for over 20 years. Living in Bordeaux, France, his favourite surf spots are Lacanau, Hossegor and Biarritz, on the French Atlantic Coast.

Harald designed the Road SurfR board as a way of mimicking the surfing action, out of the water. Also a keen skater and snowboarder, he found that while skateboards are good fun, they do not feel like a surfboard. Hence the two wheel in-line design with floating front wheel, to allow the board to turn with no restrictions, just like a surfboard.

With the brake (where fitted), Road SurfR riders can also control the downhill speed of the board. This makes downhill riding, at closed-road free riding events, possible on the Road SurfR board ? a popular sport in the Pyrenees and the Alps.

Harald likes French wine, German beer, travelling, cooking, snowboarding, skating, and fast convertibles! He doesn't like bad pavements, cold strong onshore winds, his previous boss, driving in Africa, and laziness.

Harald is the original Road SurfR board rider and enthusiast!

ROAD SURF
